Artist, educator, and the driving force behind Atelier Arts since 2012. Beverley’s ‘Create, See, Learn’ workshops have introduced hundreds of people to the joy of making art.

About Beverley

Beverley Chapelhow is a practicing artist based in Clitheroe, Lancashire. She has been working from her studio in the town centre since 2012, building Atelier Arts into one of the Ribble Valley’s most beloved creative spaces.

Beverley’s own work spans painting and mixed media, drawing on the textures and colours of the surrounding Lancashire landscape. As well as producing and selling her own art, she is a passionate and experienced art educator.

Her Create, See, Learn workshops are known for being genuinely hands-on — Beverley believes that the best way to learn to make art is simply to start making. Sessions are warm, informal, and suitable for all levels.

“I create semi-abstract atmospheric landscapes inspired by places I have visited and experienced.

Working from my own photographs, I use memory as a starting point rather than a blueprint, allowing each painting to shift beyond the original scene and settle into something more felt than seen.

Using water soluble oils, acrylics and sometimes cold wax on board, I build layered surfaces. I work intuitively with rollers, scrapers and sponges, embracing the physicality of the process. Areas are applied, obscured, revealed and reworked, creating depth through light and shadow. Surface and atmosphere are central to my practice.

My paintings sit between landscape and abstraction. Horizons soften, edges dissolve, and light moves quietly across darker passages. I am drawn to contrasts — light against shadow, stillness against tension — allowing a subtle sense of mystery to unfold.

These works are created for interior spaces and for those who feel a personal connection to landscape. I hope each painting draws the viewer in and holds them there for a moment — offering space to pause, to breathe, and perhaps to recognise something of their own experience within it.”
